Bonding metal components in railing construction
The importance of bonding technology in metal construction
In railing construction, bonding technology opens up new possibilities as an alternative to traditional methods such as welding or bolting. Although it cannot completely replace welding, it is still worth considering this technology. Special adhesive products are already indispensable in the automotive industry and in glass construction. Even coach panels, car body assemblies and glass elements on building facades are successfully joined permanently and securely using this method. Bonding techniques are also commonly used in electronics, but extensive tests and precise instructions are required to achieve optimum results.
The industry is increasingly recognizing that the right adhesive can simplify processes, save time and costs and improve quality. The price of the adhesive plays a subordinate role here. However, some metal processors are skeptical and do not fully trust the technology. This mistrust is understandable, as not every adhesive is suitable for all applications. In order to achieve durable bonds, it is essential to select the right adhesive according to the requirements and to use it correctly.
Recommendations for the selection and application of adhesives
Metal is one of the materials that bonds well, but it is important to select the right adhesive for the respective application and to use it correctly. It is advisable to bond components that do not have a load-bearing function in the balustrade, for example corners in stair eyes or purely decorative ornamental elements such as end balls. For bondings that have to withstand high loads, it is advisable to manufacture them under optimum conditions in the workshop.
We offer two high-strength metal adhesives in our range: an anaerobic adhesive (article 41965/41962) and a methyl methacrylate adhesive (article 70550). Both products complement each other in their areas of application. The anaerobic adhesive cures under exclusion of air in the joint gap and is particularly suitable for metal bonding. The methyl methacrylate adhesive, on the other hand, is characterized by high tensile strength, permanent elasticity and temperature resistance and can also bond different materials together.
Both adhesives require clean and grease-free surfaces. The anaerobic adhesive is ideal for parts that are not subject to static loads, such as end balls or plug-in corners, while the methyl methacrylate adhesive can also be used for critical outdoor applications. During application, the recommended processing temperature must be observed, and at low temperatures the use of an activator can shorten the curing times.
To achieve the best results, we recommend familiarizing yourself with bonding technology and using it carefully. With the right choice and application of adhesives, bonding technology in metal construction can be an interesting option for simple and cost-effective production.
